Murphy Insurance, formerly known as Murphy-Matoaka Insurance Agency, began in 1914 in Matoaka, WV with Charles 'Pat' Murphy as the Founder and President. He remained president until 1960. As the business grew, the agency eventually opened locations in Pineville and Princeton.

In 1945, Pat Murphy's son Lane Murphy joined Murphy Insurance and served as President from 1960 to 1981. His son-in-law, Richard Lowry, joined the company in 1972 and served as President from 1981 to the present.

We now have another generation of 'Murphy's.' Lane Murphy's grandaughter's husband, David Gobble, has recently been hired as an account executive for Murphy Insurance Agency. That makes four generations in our family-owned business.

Murphy Insurance is now located in Princeton at 1330 Mercer Street, the site of the former Princeton Community Hospital emergency room building. After 95 years, we are still providing quality insurance service at a competitive price for our valued customers in southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia. We look forward to serving you today.
